Pune, April 4, 2008: The VC Circle Growth Capital Forum event, with attendance from over 300 investors, bankers, entrepreneurs, companies, lawyers and consultants, saw 18 panelists sharing their thoughts on topics ranging from the emergence of growth capital private equity to the hottest opportunities in India over three sessions.
At the second session on “Entrepreneur and PE/VC partnership”, Shirish Deodhar, Co-Founder of nFactorial Software, spoke about “Bridging the gap between Entrepreneurs and VCs in India”. The challenge today is that entrepreneurial software product companies who are beginning to emerge in India are led by first generation founders with great product ideas and technical depth but lacking sufficient business experience. When they engage with VCs who have been dealing with mature management teams in the US and other companies, their inability to articulate their company’s business value significantly reduces the probability of being funded. This problem is compounded by the relative absence of angel and seed investment in India. Shirish spoke about how to bridge this “generation gap”.
